How to Make, and KEEP, your New Year's Resolutions

Are you tired of making New Year’s resolutions and a year later nothing has changed?

I don’t have the magic solution to guarantee your resolutions come true. What I do have, are some steps you can take to improve the areas of your life that you wish to change.

Create a Vision

You are continually envisioning your future. If you find yourself constantly consumed by worry, self-doubt, and negative thoughts, you can immobilize yourself and guarantee you remain that way.  If you truly believe you can make a change, it motivates you to take steps to create that new reality.

Do you have a clear sense of direction?  Is your life the way you want it to be?  Do you have a vision of what you want?

Visualize yourself in the future with better health, better finances, or your ideal relationship. Pay close attention to the details of this imagined perfect future. Be specific, positive, evoke emotion, be in the picture and be inspiring.  Look past what you know and what you can see today. Have faith that you can move daily toward the vision of your future. Be open to the dramatic changes that come with having faith and taking action.

An example of envisioning a clear future when faced with health issues:  Hold a vision of yourself getting to the doctor’s office early, getting seen right away, being treated with respect, and experiencing a sound resolution to your health concern. Create a script in your mind in which you walk away feeling good about the entire experience.

Action Steps for Change

1)        Write down what you visualize your future to be

2)        Create a vision board with pictures of what you want to create

3)        Review your vision daily

4)        Brainstorm doable small steps towards your vision

5)        Take steps daily forward, even if they're small

6)        Repeat!!!
