The Passion of Poker Player Annie Duke

Annie Duke, professional poker player

Annie Duke grew up in a house of cards, playing games of skill with her dad and brother, and watching her alcoholic mother enjoy solitaire.  With plans to become a professor like her father, Annie studied at Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania. She earned perfect grades and a National Science Foundation Fellowship but walked away from her studies after a nervous breakdown sent her to the hospital.  Advice from mom and tutelage from older brother eventually brought Annie into the world of professional poker.

Listen to Annie's 16 minute podcast (forward to timestamp 1:01), recorded at The Moth, to learn how doing the things you're not good at can provide a compass for passion and happiness.

And check out Tony Hsieh's appearance on The Annie Duke Show; it is a small world of poker (and happiness) after all.
