Achieving Happiness Through a Higher Purpose

The Delivering Happiness crew was honored to attend and present an award at the second annual CLASSY Awards in San Diego, a competition recognizing top philanthropic achievements by charities, businesses, and individuals in eight major cities nationwide.

One of the charities honored at this year’s ceremony was Movember, a movement to raise awareness for prostate cancer by growing a mustache throughout the month of November that serves as a ribbon of support—on your face.

We met up with the leaders of the Movember movement to discuss how a modest effort between a group of friends in 2004 became a charitable powerhouse that will have more than 400,000 participants and will raise $65 million dollars for prostate cancer research and support in 2010.

The core values of fun and humbleness at the center of the movement make profit irrelevant in lieu of a bigger purpose. Movember Founder and CEO Adam Garone explains “The happiness that I derive on a daily basis makes me a millionaire.”
