Funny, clever, and 100% hard worker, meet our social media guru, Kirsten Stubbs.

kirsten with mustacheHer background. I graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations and Business. (Phew. That's a mouthful. ;)

Where she's from. I'm originally from the winter lettuce capital of the world (and arguably the home of the best bean, rice and cheese burrito ever!): Yuma, Ariz. I currently live in Tempe, Ariz.

What she does at DH. I am the Social Scientist of the Delivering Happiness team, crafting 140-character Twitter masterpieces and Facebook epics to connect our amazing online Delivering Happiness community. It's my (and my partner in crime, Britnee's) job to bridge the virtual and physical world of happiness and use social media inspiration to enact real positive change in our community members' lives! I got started with Delivering Happiness when it was barely a book and I was barely an intern nearly 2 years ago! I've seen it evolve into a New York Times Bestseller, a bus tour and now a movement. It's been one happy roller coaster ride!

What it is about DH that makes her happy. The passion of our community members. The movement is nothing without them and they constantly inspire me to be a better person, look at the positive side of things and work toward my passion and purpose while helping others do the same.

DH and KirstenThe changes DH has inspired in her life. It's definitely helped me reassess priorities in my professional life. The idea of focusing on passion and purpose first, subsequently resulting in profit, rather than pursuing profit and hoping someday I'll reach my passion and purpose, has caused a paradigm shift in my goals and connotation of success.

On important things: I am a connoisseur of music. I'm a classically trained vocalist and have always loved (almost) all types of music. One of my favorite things to do is have a friend tell me their favorite band and then customize a mixed tape they're sure to love. Need a recommendation? Tweet me! Music is the universal language that has created a bridge between me and amazing people of all walks of life. It is my happy place.

A happy childhood memory. My sister, my best friend and I had matching neon leotards that we would rock while choreographing dance/gymnastic routines to New Kids on the Block, Lionel Richie and Paula Abdul. You can tell my amazing musical taste started at a young age.

Something in your childhood that said "future Social Scientist"? I was raised by an amazing single mother who always instilled in my sister and me that "if you're doing your best, you can never fail." It's been the motivation that has always taken me the extra mile; not for money, for recognition or for perks, but to know I did my best. It's such simple advice, and yet so vital in everything I've accomplished thus far and have yet to accomplish.

If there is one thing she would change to make the world a happier place . . . Everyone would see the power of gratitude. Many overlook the fact that "problems" are entirely subjective and arbitrary. If you meet someone who has endured countless tragedies and another person who has lived an entirely charmed life, you will find they both see problems in their lives. There is such power in clearing out the focus on negativity in your life and choosing to be grateful for the positive. It's an exercise that takes practice and dedication, but it will entirely alter your perspective and outlook.

Her happy place. Music festivals. There is absolutely nothing more peaceful to me than being surrounded by nature and sharing the joy of my favorite music with those around me.

Something weird that makes her happy. Discussing Quantum Physics and parallel parking.

Happy movie pick. The Emperor's New Groove. The first time I saw it, I cried from laughing so hard. It's incredibly witty and smart in an innocent, lighthearted way.

Happy music choices. This is a hard question! Artists (which I of course added to the Delivering Happiness Playlist!) that put me in a good mood right now are Grouplove, Local Natives, Ra Ra Riot, Passion Pit, Birdy, Givers, M83, Walk the Moon, Polica, Kimbra, AB & The Sea, Cults, Geographer and Gotye. Like I said, hard choice. ;)balloons and kirsten

A favorite quote. "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music." - Friedrich Nietzsche

What team member Sandi says about Kirsten: "Kirsten is such a ray of sunshine on our team. She is someone who just brightens your day no matter what is going on.  She is always so excited about her job and the people she is able to connect with.  She does an amazing job at keeping our social media on track and has great ideas for ways to connect with our online community.  She is an amazing part of our DH Family!"
