Your Best Gift This Season

Rising Dough

Whatever your holiday celebration, by now it is likely that you have seen a gift. Maybe you have been its giver or receiver. Maybe it was housed in a box or an envelope. Maybe it lived somewhere on a list. Or perhaps it wore the label of surprise! I imagine it was intended to deliver happiness.

In all of your preparations and comings together, there is one gift you may have lost in the shuffle. It is a gift that the dancer, Martha Graham, once eloquently described:

There's a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium. It will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable it is, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.

Coffeecake
Good things come from using your ingredients. (our traditional Christmas coffeecake is proof!)

What if you began to think of those funny little, quirky little, great little things that really make you you as a gift that is not your luxury to hold onto but your responsibility to share? What if you believed we would all feel happier after being served the passion you are storing?

What if you decided to step aside and get out of your own way? Give your ingredients the proper attention and rest so we could enjoy what you have to offer?

What if your best gift of this season was simply the promise to let your true self rise?
